Say no to the calories in sushi!
Switching to a fish based diet as opposed to other types ofbmeat is a great decision indeed. Many of those who have done this are big fans of the Japanese sushi cuisine. There is nothing really wrong with sushi if youbconsume the traditional variety. However, if you go with the new “Americanized†versions, then you are in a little bit of trouble. This is because in the newer varieties, the calories in sushi tend to be on the high side. This is especially worrying when you consider the size to calorie ratios.
Take, for example, a delicious and harmless looking California roll. It looks and tastes far more appetizing than, say, a banana. In a typical serving you will consume anywhere from six to twelve of these rolls. This can’t very harmful, right? Wrong; the only thing healthy about it is really the cucumber. The imitation crab stick, avocado and rice all add up to rather big 350 calories per roll. Now consider that somewhat unappetizing banana. A one pound yellow banana consists of only 260 calories (even a Red banana is low in banana calories). As you can see the tiny roll has far more calories than the banana.
This where eating smart plays a big part. Occasionally indulging in some sushi rolls is fine, but most of the time you need to pick your food carefully. Even if you don’t like eating something like bananas, find ways to make them interesting. Dump it in a protein shake when you are making one and consume it with that. Even when it comes to protein shakes, don’t settle for just one bland option. Look for recipes that will make them exciting and delicious. If you don’t know where to find them, just look online and you will find thousands.
